Making maple do weird things....

loveliness 186

Got shunted off the train at Wilson, but it was ok because I got to enjoy the awesome helix-like glassy platform waiting enclosures.

Also, I went back to photo that most most most beautiful tree! And amazingly the conditions (having just rained) were the same, so the branches were droopy and drippy with raindrops.... mmm yes. Still though, the pictures don't really do it justice.

Somehow today was a very lovely day... here is a list of plusses:

+ Increasing the run/walk ratio accompanied by tiny brilliantly yellow birds....

+ Learning new words, like "citational" and "intra-action." Need to add those to my list of words from anthropologists aka people who are smarter than me. I already have "rhizome" which I quite like.

+ Seeing the most most most beautiful tree in the world, where was my camera? It is too bad that I forgot it, but I bet that pictures wouldn't do it justice. It exploded my brain!

+ Pedestrian (rainy) Sunday in Kensington, with the requisite Sook-Yin sighting and big fucka date sweet potato muffin from the Urban Herbivore.

+ The general feeling of jubilance in the city -- Pride weekend, yay!

+ The amazing sound of "Kamphopo" by The Very Best... I know I already mentioned this, but I highly recommend downloading this wicked mixtape by these guys.

+ And last but not least this flash of late evening pink orange light before another downpour...
+ goodnight!

After a long day of annoyingly difficult decisions, we arrived home to this sign posted on the pole outside our house. How could this not make my day?

ps. Their myspace categorizes their music as: Tropical / Melodramatic Popular Song / Showtunes

I love you, and your monochrome landscapes.

Happy summer! Happy longest day of the year!
To celebrate we did what every self-respecting closeted (or not) hippie should: went to Dufferin Grove park for a community dinner!
$8.50 for vegetarian lasagna (homemade noodles... cooked in the fucking park oven!) or pork tourtiere (organic, cooked in the fucking park oven!), two different salads, big ass bowl of chickpea soup, and a cookie! On real plates!
(note, the sandals)

We had to leave when the people with the stilts arrived. But that was hours ago! It is still light out! June is my favourite month!!! The exclamation point is my favourite instrument of punctuation!!!!!!

The sound of rain in the night mmm hmm

Friday, the birthday fun continued some more... cards in the mail and a final delicious and garlic-y Greek dinner.
Plus a pre-7am easy run at the track behind the local high school. Just me and a woman doing tai chi and the Go trains rattling by.

loveliness 175

Whoa... birthday lovely laziness.
Thursday was a perfect day of many of my favourite things: hanging out with the pingman, good eating, toe socks, strolling about, dancing, well wishes and especially... pavlova.

Hearing about performance art pieces is usually entertaining, I find. Here is one for you:

25 participants are led, blindfolded into a silent room where they are exposed to a variety of smells and touched by near naked performers. They were told that they could take off the blindfold at any time, and at the end of the performance, only one woman had not taken off her blindfold. Too much!

Another one accidentally involved the near simultaneous suffocation of ten people, which is totally terrible as art, or as anything. It all ended well though.

Oh, these e-mails with the Hungarians are making me so happy! Here is just a taste!:

Dear Elissa!

It's okay, the essence, That we were able to solve it!
The key on the day of your arrival (July on 20) we convey it into the restaurant.
Your time he has a modification properly.

There will be two keys on the ticket, one the key of the entrance door the other one the key of the room.
You can open the entrance door so, that the key towards the bell tilt and you push it strongly get in the door.

I hope so I was able to help it!

Let your day be beautiful,

Awesome lunch at St. Hilda's retirement residence. I offer you some quotes.

Betty, on music:
"No one listens to classical music any more, it is all jazz."

Gentleman St. Hilda's resident, upon seeing my father pass by with my mother, Betty (nearing ninety) and me:
"You've got all the women! Enjoy it!"

Wow birthday picnic and concert fun! This is P in front of the Sharon Temple, which was built (in a square shape) by the Children of Peace, who were a Quaker sect. It was not built by actual children as I had previously thought. It provided a beautiful setting for Anton Kuerti to play some music for us -- how can one man make so much sound?

The concert was preceded by this picnic. I thought I knew how to picnic in style, but I have nothing on my parents.... wine and salads and excellent bread and cheese.... rhubarb tart and fresh strawberries mmmm NOM NOM NOM

Veggie dogs from a street meat vendor.... all the good without (most of) the bad. Mmmm NOM NOM NOM

While searching today for an Air Canada refund voucher (of all things) I found a note that I had written to myself (and put in an Important Place, like the type of place you might put an Air Canada refund voucher). It said:

More feeling!
More doing!
More love!

Bike to Ballet!! I was inspired by the amazing words of Gil Penalosa, the executive director of Walk & Bike for Life, who advocates for a separated bike grid across the city. That is, separated from cars. Yes please! In the meantime, not a bad route across to Jarvis, and faster than the streetcar. Plus I saved $4.50.

If you don't know about Ella's Uncle, well.... you do now. You should probably just go over there right now and get yerself a crack cookie. They don't call them that for nothing. It is an especially good stop on the way to Trinity Bellwoods  for a walk or maybe a work sesh on the picnic blanket.

Tuesday: Being happy about one's choice of profession, that's nice. Ms. G., I'm thinking of youuu...
