Everything ready to go!
I'll be saving up lovelinesses for the next week or so... Back in a bit b.l.o.g.

loveliness 241

Nice neighbours are the nicest.

Also: stained glass homemade pasta with roasted butternut and swiss chard.... with homemade peach pie for dessert. I am a very lucky girl (who did none of the home-making).

Sometimes too many coffees is just the right number of coffees.

There is a borrowed sleep suit (some would say, a pair of pajamas) in Kitchener that alone is almost worth the trip up. Such softness! It is almost like wearing nothing, but better.

Today was a day of oldness and newness. Unfortunately, the oldness was me. I am now the old TA, giving counsel to the new incoming graduate students. Le sigh. I remember when I was in their position... but only barely (now six years ago (oh barf...)). Still, it is nice to realize that I know a lot more now than I did then.

Newness? Well, the new TAs were new. But so is the newly re-opened Gladstone branch of the TPL. It has magical book scanning properties -- whole stacks at a time!

And a brilliant green sky before a wild head-to-the-basement-type storm....

It is great to have people in my life/past-life who I can e-mail with questions like this one:

Hello, I'd like to print a 4' X 100' section of a Penrose tiling. How do I do this?
And get an answer!
OK, so this is a 4' X 16' banner, but still! I have never made such a big drawing. I can't wait to print it out.... Yes, FEET!

Dr. Ivan Li and his team. They are good people. My teeth feel very very clean.

I was totally wrong about yoga.

Meeting your friend's new husband for the first time, and thinking he is just awesome, that is nice.

There is inspiring grace all around today! First the two boys flew around the track kicking and following their soccer balls (under their Father's direction) while I ran my Best Ever. Later Shalanda showed us amazingly beautiful poi spinning (sans flame this time) in the park. How can fuzzy socks on chains be so mesmerizing? And I now have a new appreciation for the art of fire spinning, having tried to create some of the patterns myself, only to end up in tangles.

loveliness 232

Homemade mac + cheese and home-grown beans oh mai. Better yet, all of the above plus happy stories. Thanks for the neeve-date neticles.

It is so cool, and so beautiful. I'm sad to have missed the Perseids this year, but maybe next year.
And this isn't the greatest story, but I do like the photo:

Arriving home to a house that was cleaner than how we left it, and an almost strangely relaxed Roxy. Thanks Hali!

MONDAY, AUGUST 3: (an almost lost loveliness)
Making peace with the free public toilets in Paris. This is actually a really good idea (both the toilets, and making peace with them), and my experience was just fine. Still though, the idea of accidentally remaining in the bathroom during the 'cleaning' stage is terrifying.

Alison pointed out this funnie video about their use:

You'd think I'd be sick of this by now, after almost fifteen years. But no!

loveliness 229

Question: Does the cuteness ever stop?
Answer: no.

Lots of lovely today:
- being wished "Happy Monday" by an exceptionally perky Dufferin Bus driver.
- meeting Cheryl, a retired high school teacher and PhD student in Dance... who is not a dancer
- the cutest squirrels ever in the park
- being seen by the policeman twice
- spaghetti dinner!
- night-walks on simultaneously the best and worst garbage night ever

A larger than expected pay-cheque. Check.

loveliness 225

Rolling off the Ontario Northland midnight bus at 6 am, the morning is cool and clear and there is steam rising off the lake -- beautiful.

loveliness 226

Today I was lucky enough to attend "Culture Fest" on the Temagami First Nation. It was nice to hear some music, check out the crafts and eat bannock. But most of all it was just nice to feel welcomed.

Ah Velibs! I love you guys! Biking around without a helmet or a plan in a foreign city... FUN!

loveliness 219

Tiles in the wild! This always makes me happy!
Especially in this format:

loveliness 218

From Budapest to Paris with a windowseat.

loveliness 223

Waking up in my own bed mmm hmmm.

lovelinesses 218 - 222 are on the way once I sort through my photos....
